A Moment on the Beach
I've wanted to paint this piece for some time. I was really taken by the design, the white leading to the figures and then everything just disappearing. The beach can be such a timeless place!

Beach Magic
This piece was inspired from one of my many beach photos. I enjoyed emphasizing the sky and creating sky and cloud shapes. The browns and blues in the lower portion of the piece echo the sky shapes and balance the darker blues at the top of the piece. There's something powerful about being able to see a flat expanse all the way to the horizon and that's what I wanted to give the impression of in this piece.

Beachcombing
This is an acrylic rendition of sanderlings, I used a lot of brushwork and vibrant color to portray these birds in this setting. The beach just sparkles sometimes and that's what I was trying to portray.

Favorite Perch
Chickadees are fun to watch and fun to listen to. They are hard to spot as they seem to hang out in the middle of the tree! I really love to paint them in trees! This is an acrylic piece with lots of pine cones and pine needles. The long rectangle creates a challenging composition. Lots of color and lots of brushwork make this a very expressive piece.

Wisteria Spring
Every Spring I admire the wisteria. This year I decided to paint them as well!
I squeezed paint right onto the paper to start with which created really strong colors!

Rose Minuet
I have a bouquet of roses in the house and they are so gorgeous that I just had to paint roses!
I tries to be looser in this piece and just suggest some things. I really let the paint run and blend!

Daffodil Joy
In my art classes we have been painting daffodils! This is one of my demos.
I always welcome daffodils in the spring! Everything is waking up and the colors are SO welcome after winter!!!! I put the joy that I feel in seeing them in this piece!
On a more technical note, yellow is a challenging color to paint with. Putting warm and cool yellows next to each other makes for a more interesting piece.

John Day River
This piece began at the campground at Cottonwood Canyon on the John Day River. It was close to sunset to I just kind of blocked everything in. I finished in the studio. This area is really beautiful.

Reflecting Water
I started this piece sitting by the river in the morning with lovely morning sunshine. I was really attracted to the way the light touched the rocks and the colors in the reflections. I worked on it a bit when I got home to finish it.

Flower of the Sun
This is my latest sunflower painting! I did a background wash in acrylic ink and watercolor a really long time ago and decided to let it sit until the right idea came to me to finish it. I've been working on it off and on all week. I kept thinking I was finished and then I'd look at it and realize...'wait! I need to change THIS and then I needed to change THAT' and on and on!!!!!!! I wasn't sure I would ever get it to the point where I was happy with it and didn't want to change anything! So, finally, today, after quite a few small changes, I'm HAPPY with it!!!! YAY!!!!!!!
I painted with watercolor and acrylic inks. This mixture of paints allows transparency contrasted with opacity. It's very interesting to develop the painting over the initial wash and allow some areas of the background to show through and to cover other areas with opaque paint. So it is a process of working in layers and visualizing not only the effects of what the paint will do, but the effect of covering the background or painting around it. It can make for very rewarding pieces due to the complexity of working in this manner.

Attraction
I started this piece and then it sat around for 2 weeks while I figured out how to finish it! That is one of the things that I really like about mixing watercolors and acrylic inks; I have the option of using opaque colors and can add touches of lighter areas (carefully!) to make a painting work.
