Robin in the Tree

This is my latest robin piece. I really like the layering of trees in this piece. The reddish  breast of this bird is such a neat color!

Playground

Today I really wanted to paint the desert. I love the desert mountains.  I imagine the rivers hidden in the canyons, the different plants living in the different climate zones and the views from the ridge lines. I have 2 long narrow canvases which I've been looking at for the past month, trying to figure out exactly what to put on them. I decided in favor of the mountains I've been thinking about and to try a vertical composition instead of a horizontal one. My brother has been sending me photos of ravens, so I incorporated a couple into my mountains. Ravens PLAY. So I made my mountains into their playground. Thanks to Joe Marek for the AWESOME photos of ravens!

"Singing"

Today in my workshop, "Singing", we painted meadowlarks and rosehips. We used watercolor and acrylic; textured with saran wrap and had a lot of fun gathering leaves and plants to use as stamps! Below are the works in progress.

Works in progress from my workshop, "Singing." Notice all of the wonderful colors and textures!
What a GREAT way to spend the day!

Visiting Raven

The process of pouring, spattering, and texturing is endlessly interesting. How the paint blends, what happens to the colors and trying to find the story on the paper when it dries is a very great challenge as well as a privilege. Below are a couple of pieces which have yet to be finished. I've been looking at them for days now, turning them over in my mind, trying to figure out the rest of the story!
The piece below started out somewhat like what you see above. I got the idea to add the bird while I was bike riding! I used a lot of iridescent ink, so everything has a sparkle to it. I really love watching ravens. They play, show off, and are fearless around hawks. They are confident and comfortable in their environment. This piece is titled, "Visiting Raven."

Singing in Colors

Ever thought of Autumn as a song of many colors? Well, my piece, "Singing in Colors", turned out to be just that! It's a song using colors instead of notes! Hope you enjoy!
